Every month students will be required to complete Common Formative Assessments (CFA). These Common Formative Assessments reflect essential standards and skills each student should master before moving on to the next grade level.  The data collected from the CFAs will help Learning Coaches and teachers track students’ mastery on the essential standards.

The CFAs are also aligned to the rigorous Common Core State Standards and give students exposure to the Smarter Balanced Assessments, also known as the SBAC, which students grades 3-5 in the state of Nevada are required to take.  The SBAC are computer based assessments that will require our students to think on higher levels and apply them to real world situations.  Like the SBAC, these Common Formative Assessments go beyond multiple-choice questions and include short constructed responses that demonstrate analytical skills and real-world problem solving.

Although students in grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade will not be required to take the SBAC, these Common Formative Assessments will help prepare your student to meet the rigorous assessments when they enter into third grade.
